Tatum O’Neil Researches Crack Cocaine - Hands On!

Tatum O’neil, Oscar winning actress has taken her acting to a whole new level. Arrested this morning and charged with purchasing cocaine and crack by detectives from Manhattan South Narcotics team. Tatum O’neil is alleged to have attempted to squirm out of the arrest by claiming that she was just researching the part of a junkie, and that the officers should just forget about this instance and be on their way. If it were that easy Tatum, we’d all be doing it - nice try though. God help Manhattan if tatum ever researches a serial killer lead role!
Tatum O’Neil has has been outspoken with her previous addiction battles but claims that she has been clean for several years now. Cocaine addiction is rife amongst celebrities and all too often their habits go unchecked and unprosecuted - perhaps a spell in the slammer is all thats needed to shake the habit, I’m sure that would work if I were in that situation.

Who on Earth is Erlene Zierke ?

Erlene Zierke to many will just be a name to hit the headlines, brought about by her untimely and tragic death last week. To many of her friends in Atlanta though, her death has come as a devastating blow, and a sharp reminder that fate is a fickle thing. Erlene Zierke was by all accounts, a lively, bubbly, beautiful person - “The life and Soul” of the party.

You might have known Erlene Zierke too. She was active online, easy-going, feisty, and funny. She was a real evangelist for Turner Broadcasting. She championed Super Deluxe (comedy video producers) every chance she had and it was her online presence that has influenced those that have never met her. Erlene Zierke was an avid Flickr contributor with many, many fans eagerly awaiting her latest photos. Sadly there will be no more but her online popularity will ensure that the name Erlene Zierke will now be known to thousands of folk who never had the chance to meet her - God Bless you Erlene, my thoughts are with you and your loved ones.

Jeremy Clarkson Speeding Again - Surely Not!

Jeremy clarkson Speeding - huh, something newsworthy here - its what the man does for a living, unless of course his recent revelations get him fired from the BBC’s Top Gear motoring show, which is what road safety charity “Brake” are calling for.
Jeremy Clarkson put his foot in his mouth when talking to an interviewer at the Literary Festival in the UK - Jeremy Clarkson said that he’d received a speeding ticket for driving a Bugatti Veyron supercar through the London docklands area at over 186 mph. Jeremy Clarkson soon retracted his speeding confession upon realising what a gaff he’d just made, by saying “or perhaps it was someone else because I didn’t get prosecuted for it!” - nice one Jeremy, wish that one would have worked for me.
Jeremy Clarkson’s speeding antics are regular news in the Uk, just last year jeremy Clarkson was aquitted of speeding in an Alpha Romeo at 80 mph through a restricted zone - the case was dropped on a technicality. Jeremy Clarkson’s speeding habits are enjoyed by a fanatical following of petrolheads the world over - I for one do not believe that it was Jeremy Clarkson speeding in the Bugatti - had it been him, I reckon he would of pushed for 200 mph! - yes he’s that arrogant, but you have to love him!
At the time of jeremy Clarkson’s alleged speeding offense, the Bugatti Veyron was probably the most potent supercar in production. powered by a W16 engine - 16 cylinders arranges in four banks of four cylinders, four valves per cyslinder, quad camshafts and boosted by a whopping four turbocharges equating to some 970 Bhp at the wheels, and around 900 ft lbs of torque!
The Bugatti has staggering performance - 0 to 62 mph is over in a blink at just 2.5 seconds and the top speed pushes 250 mph. At full throttle the Veyron will consume an environmentally unacceptable 2.5 gallons per mile. In the Uk that would cost around GBP £18 per mile and drain the entire tank of fuel in under 13 minutes! - perhaps the UK Government should be encouraging this kind of lunacy - just think of all that additional fuel tax revenue…now there’s another story - Over to you Jeremy Clarkson.

Affiliate Marketing Stealth Tax?

There have been many posts recently regarding the New York State Department of taxation’s impending regulation to impose an out of State sales tax in respect of online companies having affiliates residing in New York. Effectively an online retailer would have to collect sales tax in respect of products sold online to New Yorkers, IF (and this is the crux) that online retailer has a physical presence in New York State.

Ok, a bit of a bitch if you’re a New York Online trader, or if you’re out of state but have agents or offices within New York, then you’ve got until June 1st 2008 to declare your interests to the New York taxation department. (new Yorkers already have to declare out of state purchases when filing tax returns).

So no big deal to the rest of us (sorry New Yorkers you’re on your own) , BUT IS IT? - Well here’s the absolute lunacy of it all - YES it will affect us - well EVERYONE who sells products online and has an affiliate program in operation!

IT WILL if the NY taxation department get their way, because they are declaring that having an online affiliate residing in New York is exactly the same as having and angent or employee living there! and therefore the taxation rules will apply - Is this abosolute bollocks or what?

Online giant Amazon.com are not taking it lightly and are currently suing the NY Taxation department; “We are challenging the constitutionality of the recently enacted legislation in New York,” Amazon spokeswoman Patricia Smith said. Officials estimated the state would gain about $50 million by requiring Internet giants such as Amazon.com to collect state sales tax.

Imagine if idiocy prevails - how many other states (and countries) will get in on the act - some nice extra revenue there for the taking! - sure it would probably cost in excess of the recoverable revenue to set up a department to police and collect the taxes, but hey that’s never been an issue before has it!

Watch out Google you’re next!

So what about Adwords and Adsense (and any other PPC program), will they be immune? - If the same argument stands then the situation is exactly the same. Yes, utter crap I know, but its exactly the same. If you are an online retailer and you choose to have your ads shown across the Google network, then there is every likelyhood that one of you’re ads will be displayed on a website operated by a New Yorker - So you now have an agent (affiliate) residing in New York and you must now collect sales tax from ANY products bought by New Yorkers! (maybe there’s an option in adwords to turn off New York State).

Seriously people, this is something that affects us all as internet operatives - its bureaucratic greed at the highest level. I doubt it will ever come to anything and I’m sure amazon will give them the beating that they deserve, but its worth keeping a watchful eye on events..
